Upholstery cleaning is often an after-thought and is usually done once every quarter of the year, or perhaps only twice a year. However, clean upholstery is essential to a clean house. Dirt, dust, and pet hairs can in bed itself into the fabric, which can cause allergies and degrade the air quality in your home.
First, assess what needs to be done. What materials are you dealing with? Leather? Canvas? Different materials require different methods for cleaning. In general, you’ll want to look for any washing instructions that may be found either on the tag or in the care instruction provided by your upholstery manufacturer. If you can’t find any cleaning information, you can call the store where you’ve brought it, the manufacturer, or you may ask for upholstery cleaners service to do the job of upholstery cleaning.
Keen To Clean, an upholstery cleaners company, uses two distinct upholstery cleaning processes: upholstery steam cleaning and upholstery dry cleaning. We provide our cleaning services in Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney.
Upholstery Steam Cleaning (Hot water extraction)
A method of cleaning that injects hot detergent cleaning solution under pressure into the fabric. The soil is suspended and rinsed, and then the fabric is vacuumed to remove suspended soil and moisture. This method is very effective in the removal of suspended soil. This method is very effective in the removal of suspended soil. Extra drying passes should be used to prevent over wetting and speed drying. Many cleaners use pre sprays which contain surfactants to reduce surface tension and allow better penetration and cleaning. This method removes the most suspended soil. Moist fabric covered walls respond best to wet cleaning, remember to always test first. Upholstery Dry Cleaning
A method of cleaning where heated non-chlorinated, (odourless mineral spirits) based dry cleaning solvents are sprayed either by hand held spray or by machine onto the fabric. The solvents work to break down oily binders such as perspiration and suspend soil. Expect only moderate results on heavily soiled fabrics. Soil and solvents are then recovered by vacuum motor. The advantage of the system is no fabric shrinkage. When using portable extraction equipment and solvents in the customer’s hoe it is important to ventilate and exhaust fumes outside.
